Create a LightRules Backup Drive
Overview
The following instructions detail how to create a LightRules Appliance Backup USB Drive for LightRules versions 2.8.X or higher.
Disclaimer
Please follow these instructions precisely as deviation from them may result in improperly configured hardware. Please backup any files you wish to keep as this procedure will completely erase the USB drive you have chosen
Required Supplies
- 128 GB+ USB 2.0/3.0 Drive
- Windows or Mac computer
Instructions for Mac
- Insert the 128 GB+ USB drive into a USB port of the computer
- Open Disk Utility
- Press Command + Space to search
- Type Disk Utility in search bar
- On the left pane of the Disk Utility window, select the USB drive you had inserted previously
- Along the top pane, select Erase
- For the Format option, select ExFAT from the drop down
- For the Name option, type LRA-BACKUP (Note: Case sensitive)
- Once you have completed the steps above, select Erase...
- After the Erase procedure has completed, exit the Disk Utility and open the ‘LRA-BACKUP’ folder
- Create a new folder named Backups (Note: Case sensitive)
- You can now safety eject the USB drive and use it to create full Backups of your LightRules Appliance.
Instructions for Windows
- Insert the 128 GB+ USB drive into a USB port of the computer
- Navigate to My Computer, right-click the USB device and select Format which will open up a secondary window
- Ensure that exFAT (Default) is selected in the drop down next to File System and enter LRA- BACKUP (Note: Case sensitive) in the Volume Label text field as shown below:
Once you have completed those steps, click StartAfter the format has finished and you have selected OK from the prompt open up the USB device now titled ‘LRA-BACKUP’Create a new folder labeled Backups (Note: Case sensitive)- You can now safety eject the USB drive and use it to create full Backups of your LightRules Appliance.
