How to access terminal on a standalone LRA

How to access terminal on a standalone LRA

Overview

This guide details the process for accessing a terminal emulator on a LightRules Appliance (LRA) with a monitor, keyboard and mouse connected.  No credentials are needed to use terminal emulator, however access is limited to the lruser user which has limited permissions. While terminal emulator is not needed to use, configure or access LightRules, the terminal emulator is sometimes useful for network troubleshooting such as pinging switches or other devices via the enterprise or lighting network ports.  lruser has permissions to run commands such as ping, route -n, and ifconfig.

How to access terminal emulator

  1. Exit Full Screen by pressing F11 or right-clicking LightRules and selecting Exit Full Screen.  If the Desktop is not visible after exiting full screen, please minimize or move windows until a portion of the Desktop is visible
  2. Right-click anywhere on the Desktop and select Terminal Emulator
  3. You may now enter commands as the lruser.  Permission will be denied for any commands that lruser does not have permission to run.  Example uses of terminal include pinging switches or viewing the routing table
