Upload a Map File on a Standalone LRA

This article describes the process for uploading a map file to a LightRules Appliance (LRA). This process is most often used for standalone LRAs which are not connected to the enterprise network and are accessed via ethernet or via an attached monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Upload via Ethernet
  1. Locate the LightRules Ethernet Ports label on the LRA
  2. Per the LightRules Ethernet Ports label, unplug the ethernet cable from the lighting network port
  3. Connect an ethernet cable to a laptop and then connect the other end of the ethernet cable to the lighting network port of the LRA
  4. Turn off the WiFi on the laptop
  5. Open up a web browser, type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press Enter to load the web page
  6. You should now be presented with the LightRules login page
    1. If you are unable to connect to 192.168.1.1, please ensure WiFi is off and the ethernet port of the laptop is configured to accept IP addresses via DHCP (as typically by default)
  7. Login to LightRules
  8. Click the Configuration tab and select Manage Mapfile
  9. Under Upload, click Choose File, then browse for the file from your computer
  10. LightRules will then display The map file is being processed. It is normal for LightRules to take up to 15 minutes to return to full operation as route collection and map processing begin after clicking Upload
  11. After a few minutes, LightRules will redirect to the Diagnostics page.  Initially the gateway status’ will be orange as the gateways undergo the route collection process. The lights will not be controllable until the route collection process is complete and the gateways are no longer listed on the diagnostics page
Upload via USB
  1. Insert exFAT formatted USB drive into the USB port of LRA
  2. Login to LightRules
  3. Click the Config tab and select Manage Map File
  4. Under Upload Map File, select Choose File
  5. Select the name of the connected USB drive in the Places column on the left of the Save File window.  If you formatted the USB drive as a LightRules backup drive, the name of the drive will be LRA-BACKUP
  6. Browse for the map file on the USB drive, then select the map file and click Open. The map file will have a .map file extension
  7. You will be redirected to the Manage Map File page. Click Upload
  8. LightRules will then display The map file is being processed. It is normal for LightRules to take up to 15 minutes to return to full operation as route collection and map processing begin after clicking Upload
  9. After a few minutes, LightRules will redirect to the Diagnostics page.  Initially the gateway status’ will be orange as the gateways undergo the route collection process. The lights will not be controllable until the route collection process is complete and the gateways are no longer listed on the diagnostics page
