Download a Map File on a Standalone LRA
This article describes the process for downloading a map file from a LightRules Appliance (LRA). This process is most often used for standalone LRAs which are not connected to the enterprise network and are accessed via ethernet or via an attached monitor, keyboard and mouse.
- Locate the LightRules Ethernet Ports label on the LRA
- Per the LightRules Ethernet Ports label, unplug the ethernet cable from the lighting network port
- Connect an ethernet cable to a laptop and then connect the other end of the ethernet cable to the lighting network port of the LRA
- Turn off the WiFi on the laptop
- Open up a web browser, type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press Enter to load the web page
- You should now be presented with the LightRules login page
- If you are unable to connect to 192.168.1.1, please ensure WiFi is off and the ethernet port of the laptop is configured to accept IP addresses via DHCP (as typically by default)
- Login to LightRules
- Click the Configuration tab and select Download Map File. Please save the download to your Downloads folder or Desktop so it can easily be attached to an email. The map file will begin in LRA-2019 and end in a .map file extension
- Once the map file is downloaded, disconnect the laptop from the lighting network port of the LRA and reconnect the ethernet cable
- Obtain an exFAT formatted USB drive
- Many USB drives are exFAT format by default. If uncertain, you can re-format a USB drive to exFAT
- Connect a monitor, keyboard and mouse to the LRA
- Connect the exFAT USB drive to a USB port of the LRA
- Note if your LRA is an Advantec model, you must connect the USB drive at least 30 seconds after the LRA is turned on. During initial startup, the Advantec LRAs will boot off of any attached USB drive instead of the hard drive. This is not of concern if the LRA is already running
- Login to LightRules
- If you cannot access the LightRules login page then right-click the Desktop, select Chromium and then enter localhost into the address bar of the web browser
- Click the Config tab and select Manage Map File
- Right-click Download and select Save Link As...
- Select the name of the connected USB drive in the Places column on the left of the Save File window
- Click Save
- Disconnect the exFAT USB drive from the LRA and connect it to your computer
- You can now navigate to the USB drive on your computer and should find the map file saved on the USB drive. The filename for the map file will begin in LRA-20 and end in .map based upon the date that the map file is downloaded
